His adoptive brother, Rath, was older and was often jealous of him. By his early 20's, Jaul had become a member of The Seven, which made his adoptive family proud with the exception of Rath. When Rath met Trobathian, Eve, he grew affection for her, however, she fell in love with Jaul. At first, Jaul was uninterested in her, focusing on his duties as member of The Seven but eventually he fell in love with her too and married her in secret. Rath’s jealousy pushed him over the edge and he began to form an army of his own.  Eve became pregnant which was against the law and Jaul kept the secret in order to stay a member of The Seven but Rath quickly discovered it and spread the news, although he had no idea how far along Eve was.

Jaul and Eve were being hunted to face trial. Although Jaul wanted to take the responsible route, he thought about his unborn child and decided to wait until it was born and tell the council that they had a miscarriage but Rath began to have The Seven assassinated and later began to invade Gan Ādan.

Rath hunted the couple forcing Jaul and Eve to think of another plan. Being a descendent of Barik, he knew the location of the Drothka and re-dug the ring. Rath followed Jaul to the ring’s resting place and found Jaul with the ring. After a brief fight, Jaul escaped and ran off to be with Eve who had given birth to a baby girl. The couple ran away to the River Razēl and sent their daughter down the river to be transported to Trobathia. Rath caught up with the couple right after demanding the Drothka, thinking they were going to travel to Trobathia but realized the truth; the child was already born and sent away instead. In result, it was originally believed that Eve was killed and Jaul  too but later discovered that he had escaped and she became Merila due to Dramon. Rath knew Jaul was alive but did not say anything to maintain the illusion that he had control.

During this time, Jaul had lived in exile, roaming around from Hacradia to Mnabia to Kova, staying on the outskirts of Gan Adan. He knew that around Fox's 13th year, she would return to Gan Adan for good but did not know where or how to find her. So he waited for a sign. When Fox was captured, Rath announced far and wide that he would be fighting and killing the supposed Chosen One. Jaul immediately set his eyes on Rizandor. During the duel, Jaul intervened and saved his daughter. He carried her away from the mountain and into the forests but ultimately decided to leave her to warn his allies. This broke Fox's heart. Although, he had every intention to return to her, ultimately he realized he was unfit to be a father. Living on the run had changed him and made him more feral. He often blamed himself for the fall of Gan Adan and Rath's rise. Rath claimed that he killed himself but no evidence was provided to support that claim.
